the new canon HF S100 - http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/597440-REG/Canon_3569B001_VIXIA_HF_S100_Flash.html

coming in april i think.

so the max resolution a CMOS sensor can record is something like 70% of it's pixel count right. that's why all these "full rez" cmos cameras (hv20 etc) are only recording aprox 700 lines and not the full 1080.

but this little puppy has an "8.59Mp 1/2.6" sensor"!!

4:3=Approx 8.02Mp (3264 x 2456)
16:9=Approx 6.01Mp (3264 x 1840)

so if this thing is done properly, that means we're going to get 70% of 3264 x 1840... which is 2285X1288. then scaled down to 1080p24 in the full 24mbps AVCHD!

the ISO is gonna suck. but it's going to be sharp as hell. sharp like an EX1!

i'm such a camera geek..... :(

I too am awaiting this little bundle of joy as you are. It does look very impressive and I have a travel doc that it will be perfect for. I just wish that it was coming out sooner so we could get some low light testing on it. Unfortunately my doc will feature a lot of low light interiors so if it is too noisy, I may have to explore other options.

A friend of mine has an HF11 that he has barely used and is selling cheap since he is buying a 5D MKII so that may turn our to be a viable alternative.

These new Canons look impressive as hell from a feature standpoint though. Color bars with tone, dual zebras, manual focus and WB, etc. Very impressive from a microscopic consumer camera. And could there be a better Steadicam camera? You could actually use the Merlin and get some great footage with it.

@ puredrifting, do you use the HF S100 with the merlin? i need help balancing the HF S100 on the merlin. I got the WD-H58 wide converter lens attached to the cam.

Nope, I bought the 5D MKII instead. I liked almost everything about the little Canons but their low light sucks and having a tiny sensor sucks. The 5D MKII is pretty impressive. Balancing a Merlin is a *****, no matter what the camera. I used to own the Steadicam DV and you have to just be patient and keep tweaking it to achieve dynamic balance.

I am contemplating the Pilot, just not sure yet what the real price is.
