Agreed. An EX1 or EX1R are nice cameras (if you get a good one) I've owned three EX1s and two of them presented me with technical problems. Make sure that you get a good one that has lower hours and has been treated well. With tapeless media hours are not quite as important but the more hours there are, the more they HAVE been used.

I would (personally) consider an EX1(R) and also a DSLR with a couple lenses for a B cam. That way you can have the ease of use and nice footage from the Sony and the shallow DOF (if desired) from the DSLR.

It becomes a tad more complex with two cameras but when doing a doc it is kind of nice to have more than one camera rolling anyway in case you get pure gold in only one take.
