New Atomos Ninja Inferno : $995 HDR Recording Monitor : Records 4K 60p 10-bit 4:2:2

It's a new item because the item has been repackaged and is being sold as a different product with less accessories and it's not in stock yet.

The main difference between the 'Basic' and 'Advanced' is the travel case vs. the hard pelican case, and no batteries in the basic.

Ok that part might make sense but what doesn't make sense is why the advanced kit Flame would be the same $995 price as the new Inferno which has more features. Even if one doesn't need 4k 60p at this very moment for the same price there is absolutely no reason for somebody to buy the Flame. Something just seems a bit off with this whole pricing thing. If the Flame full kit has the same accessories as the Inferno and the same price Atomos would be better off discontinuing the Flame like they did with the Assassin.

I don't think Atomos was taking into account store stock of the Ninja Flame, and I'm sure stores don't want to take a loss on their current stock.
( i.e. Atomos needs to rebate or exchange old stock )

The Ninja Inferno doesn't come with the Pelican or batteries either.

So...

Ninja Flame - $795 (travel case/AC power)

Ninja Inferno - $995 (travel case/AC power)

Ninja Flame Kit - $995 (hard case, batteries, etc.)

Ninja Inferno Kit* - $1195 (hard case, batteries, etc.)

*Doesn't exist, but could.

If you look at it like that, it makes a bit more sense.

Atomos is going for the "2016 Most Confusing Product Tier Name Variation Differentiation Award." They are in a neck in neck tie with another strong contender, Dracast. Hope they win, those crazy Aussies deserve it.

If they bundle it, it will be a bit cheaper.

I think this is the right approach though to offer an option without accessories. (Like in the past with the original Shogun.)

I've owned a Ninja Flame and Shogun Flame (not really happy about the price drops and rebates, but that's another conversation, lol) and I never used any of the accessories they came with, not even the case.

I would rather buy the bare bones version and power it with my own brick and have the little travel case that I could throw into a bigger pelican with other stuff.

That's just me though...I can see someone loving the entire kit with all of the various accessories.

Agreed. After many light kits/monitors I have an army of Sony chargers/batteries sitting here. The case is nice to have but I also don't like doing a project having to carry 500 little hard cases with me and prefer to bundle a lot of my gear into easier to haul larger cases. The Barebones is the way to go here.

Glad the pricing thing is finally cleared up. Makes sense and I see a lot of value in the barebones kits. Still has a case, just not one hard durable one. I'm fine with that since I have plenty of other cases I haul gear with.

If you mean trigger recording then it should, yes.

(I haven't tested it with the GH5, but the GH4 does and of course many other cameras.)
