New ASUS PC copies the MacPro Trashcan

Maybe. I don't judge my PCs based on case shape. :-)

I just depends on how this one works. I'd --like-- the components to be upgradeable, am on the fence about Quadro GPUs, and I need computers that sit on or near my desk to be quiet. And they need to be priced in a manner that lets them earn their keep before I upgrade, or more likely just replace, them. And if the components aren't easily upgradeable, price becomes even more important than if they aren't.

Looks like these are scheduled to ship at the end of this month. So it's going to come down to price/performance, and until we know the price, I'm not going to spend much time digging in deeper. Because if it's really expensive, I won't be interested.

But the shape --might-- work.

i don't really see any advantage to another cylinder computer like this other that some may think its cool looking or kind of clever. I've had about a dozen and a half macs in my life and when i saw the 2013 cylinder mac pro i actually thought it was the cheapest looking piece of hardware apple had ever made. i think it was the shiny finish that looked cheap. now had they used the brushed grey metal material like the cheese graters it probably would have looked classy although still not very functional especially considering the cost.

As of now I got plenty of space, so a big bulky computer is no problem. I also build all my computers myself, so I prefer to have big spacious case so I know everything will fit. Never fun to buy a shiny new graphics card only to realize that it doesn't fit because the case despite being ATX-standard having parts in the way. Nowadays less of an issue because even smaller cases have more modular cages inside them that can be removed...

I guess it is nice to have a computer looking all fancy if you have it standing in front of your face all day. But then I would ask myself, why have a noisy computer right in front of me?

That's also an issue for me, noise, I use water-cooled CPUs, to make sure the fans can go slower and quieter. So basically only time I hear my computers are when my mechanical HDDs wind up in speed, and I usually only trigger them when off loading footage, while working I'm only on SSD/M2...

My workstation has three HDDs and two SSDs, and an optical drive. I'd rather have a big case with all the stuff inside than a small trash can with lots of bits lying around on the desk, connected through cables.

Air cooling can be more simple in the cylinder. And this is not the first look a like, but I forget who built the first, think I remember seeing it in a BestBuy.
