New addition to the family...

As some of you know my dog passed away very early this year. We still miss him very much.

Well, we felt it was time to go out and get a new dog as we were really starting to miss that companionship around the home.
It's been about half a year so we decided to adopt a new puppy from a shelter.

Say hello to our new pup, Isabella. Or Bella, Belle, depending on who's calling. :)

She's a mix direct from the Arctic tundra, Iqaluit. She has a bit of German Shepherd, Siberian Husky and Rhodesian Ridgeback in her.
We love her to bits and she's adjusting really well.

Thanks again to everyone for their support during what was a pretty rough time.

Congrats! Great looking pup (although I thought by the title of the thread that you got a new camera )

my buddy's dog just died recently (which was actually 1 of 8 puppies that one of my dogs had before it died) and he just bought a new puppy as well.... irish wolf hound/black lab mix... haven't seen it yet, but sounds like a pretty dog... and big...

p.s... ur dog is purty...

Nice. My own dog is getting on in years...not sure I can live without a dog now...
it's rough to go without one.

In some ways I was blown away by how much easier my life had become. No more walks multiple times a day.
I barely had to clean my floors anymore, no hair to clean up, drool, paw prints.
I could come and go as I please, trips could now happen spur of the moment and I didn't have to think "who's going to take care of the dog?".

In the end I really missed that loving feeling when you walk in the door. The big lug curling up beside you.
The constant companionship and long walks are great! I was getting lazy.

Well when my dog was younger, she loved going on trips with me. And that's a great thing about the Honda Element; good dog car :) But in her later years, she likes road trips for about an hour, then gets bored. :(

And yeah, I always adopt. I don't believe in buying animals or in going to breeders, etc.

Same here. Not to mention, his hips were so sore that jumping in and out of the back of cars became quite the effort for him. Even stairs became difficult.
Meds helped but only so much.

In the last 5 years...

Starting with two dogs my wife (then girlfriend) and I got...
one died randomly in her sleep (6 months old)
The other got pregnant and had 8 puppies. died of stomach cancer sometime later.

Of the 8 puppies. 1 died as a runt. another died as a result of injuries from being rejected by the mother. 1 got run over. 2 disappeared and I suspect were poisoned (judging from the lone survivor dragging herself home early the next morning, unable to use her back legs, and covered in maggots... she made a full recovery though). and the one that my friend got died recently as stated.

and we had a cat go missing....

so, 9 out of 11 of our pets have died... We have a dog... the trooper who drug herself home on her front legs... and the last of that litter of 8 to my knowledge is still alive in a home of a friend of mine.

Oh, and my (then... and still) wife was pregnant with our first kid when the first 5 of them died... That was a wild summer....

Thumbs up on adopting from a shelter instead of buying from a store!

+1000.

Good on you for doing that.

My Rotty passed away almost a year and a half ago from bone cancer, my wife and I were devastated.

I went to the local dog shelter and got this big lug:

It also made moving the office back home a much easier decision.
