NEW ADAPTER: Redrock M2 Encore

This sounds like a great upgrade especially for existing M2 owners. How it will compare to other adapters will remain to be seen, but it sounds like they are all improving rapidly.

With regard to the 1/2 stop light loss. With all due respect I'll believe all such claims when i see them. When I originally bought my first adapter an M2 about 2 years ago it was advertised as 1/2 stop light loss, but in fact it was over 2. Then I got a Letus that was advertised as 1/2 light loss and faster than anything around - neither claim was true in my experience. This time it may all be different though.

Regarding the mount to rails or free standing I prefer the latter because in my experience its faster and more flexible when setting up. Especially when you need to change the camera you are using, the mount to rails system is very cumbersome to change. Sounds great for existing M2 users and Canon owners though.

I can definitely say that I have been impressed with the new Encore, when I used it in December. And I have been a redrock owner. I can definitely say that it is MUCH less light loss...Crisp, edge to edge sharpness, great image.

The upgrades look great but I think the SGpro is still a winner based on price. Time will tell.

SGPro isn't available anymore. Blade is though. But it's 2k. This adapter (adapter alone) is around $1k. If it has the same optics they claim it does... it will definitely be a welcome addition to the market in my opinion.

Also...if i do go with the upgrade path...it looks like I need a bigger riser than i currently own for my package (i dont have a flip module yet, so my ex1 or hvx isnt as high as it looks like it will need to be once the flip is installed). So if I buy the upgrade at $545, the flip at $545 and need a new riser at about $300...im $1400 in for the upgrade.

Brent, the new riser comes with the flip piece, you just take the old riser off your baseplate and put the new riser on. Redrock's video for upgrading to their old flip showed this being done.

As a resident hater of 2.35, I'm going to be fickle and complain that it's not 2.35.... it's 2.39 or commonly called 2.40.

With that out of my system...

Otherwise I have been a Redrock fan since the start! I've bought two of them over the last three years.

What I want to see is the footage. I've always used Redrock over the competition because their more dense GG had a better image even though the light loss was a stop and a half.

The 1/2 stop competition of recent makes has some good images, but it has blooming highlights and diffusion in the image which I just don't prefer. I hope RedRock has some how engineered the new GG to look like the old.

If they have gone the way of the other 1/2 stop gg's I'll be requesting the 'classic' gg in the new model. That way I can adjust backfocus use mattes, and etc, but with the product i've grown to love.

Now watch this post get buried in the avalache of discussion. :)

Anyway, Redrock has been a great company and I look forward to the new line up.

Not sure where you get the 2K from. The SGBlade is around $780 USD, currently for a non flipped adapter. Last time I checked the Blade w/flip was a little over $1,200.00 USD.

Marcel,

I think joseph is right, that amount you quoted is in POUNDS not US dollars, stating what country it would ship in their order page, say the US, would give you US$1,130.75 Approx, for a basic non-flip unit.

That's with the flip. Non-flip is about $900.

yeah thats right, I messed up my cart, so here; I added a blade with 1 roto, a nikon mount, a non flip connector and 82 to 72 step down and came up with US$956.34 Approx.

thanks for that huy yu.

A fair package comparison would be:

SGblade with ROTOrazor 1, FLIPmodule, flight case, charger, free step ring, 15mm Rods Support System & Blade Bracket: $1449 and free shipping.

An extra $70 gets you ROTOrazor 2 and an extra $43 gets you a separate tripod clamp.

So approximately what is the minimum that one needs to zoom in with a 1/3" camera, and what is the max one can zoom before things get fuzzy?

What's the current lead time Wayne? I noticed on your site that it says products will ship, at the earliest, March...

No I was quoting USD but I was doing from memory. Last time I checked the exhange rate (about 2 weeks ago) it was hovering about 1.3 dollars to a BP. I see it's gone back up a bit to 1.43 so that $780 is now $855 (assuming the base 599 bp price).

Regardless, as Wayne indicated, $1449 for a Blade/flip w/ rails is a very competative price!

I think it would be fair to get this thread back on topic, lets please discuss anything regarding the SGblade in the appropriate thread.

That EF lens control means it has the ability to run electronic focusing that could lead to electronic FF device that could preset and ramp the focus... how long would it take?

Does the $995 "M2 Indie Bundle" in redrockmicro's store include the M2 Encore? It only says "M2 Cinema Lens Adapter" on the site; can't tell whether that's an older version of the adapter or just an omission of the word "Encore."

The equivalent Redrock setup is $1995, which makes the price difference between the two $545. Oddly enough, that's the price of the M2 upgrade. Weird!

But with redrock you have to pay for shipping.
