Looks like a nice product but it may have a hard time standing out in an already crowded field. The price is now the lowest point of entry for a 4k recorder/monitor but the monitor portion itself may be far below the quality and features of other 4k recorder/monitor units.
Still no 3D LUT support which is a huge bummer.
Still has no way to really calibrate the monitor or adjust its look with a decent amount of precision.
Personally I think I will still hold off on getting a BMD Video Assist until they can release firmware to support 3D LUTS and fine color precision to calibrate the monitors. The Atomos Flames and Pix-e recorders are starting to look like the best option we will have for awhile.
Overall kind of a disappointing year for BMD in my opinion. I was really hoping to see some portable 4k thunderbolt based products and a 4k pocket camera. I currently use a BMD Shuttle Thunderbolt for capture and output from my Macs and there is still no decent way to handle a 4k workflow with a portable device. Seems like BMD is really focusing on PCI-express cards which is a bit of a drag for the Apple users.
I also really wanted to see a 4k version of the BMD Hyperdeck Shuttle for those who don't need a monitor and just want a 4k external recorder.
