new 4K iPhone 6s can edit 4K video in iMovie on the phone

I firmly disagree. At this point I would just like them to improve the dynamic range.
It's funny. When the Canon 5d Mark II was first released and it was all the rage, in many forums you NEVER heard qualms about dynamic range or color science. Since then, every camera is scrutinized about the need for more for dynamic range or better color science. It's getting kinda silly. Especially when the term dynamic range and color science is applied to a smartphone.

I want you all to spend next week talking to "normal" people and ask them, "What do you think of the new iPhone camera's dynamic range". I bet 9/10 answers will be somewhat like this. "Yeah, I loose signal quite often when I'm driving".

I will add. If people, of "the people" that keep on criticizing every camera because of color science and dynamic range, you're never gonna get to a place where you just go out and create. A vast majority of viewer just want content. They could give a **** what the picture looks like. And with the ever growing amounts of people watching content on streaming services with their smartphone, and with smartphones now able to shoot a great image and the content edited on that very decide, you might just find yourself sitting around doing nothing because you look at everything as dynamic range and color science. Not that they aren't something to be desired. It's just that they aren't the only contributing factor to creating content.

Funny, seems you exactly express my feeling when I read your posts on cameras you don't like such as the most recent a7RII... ;-)

Who says I don't like the A7rII? A 44Mp "STILLS" camera that has 4K internal. Overheat or not, pretty cool specs. Pushing envelopes anyway. Just not invested in Sony cameras anymore.

Personally, Yes, I don't like Sony's color over other offerings. But I don't think Sony stinks. They have come a long way with the 45 cameras they released in the last 6 months. But, they aren't smartphones now are they?

I own canons, sony, BMD, panny, leica, GoPro, DJI offerings, and yes, smartphones.

First doco shot with iPhone 6+ https://youtu.be/Eyr9NwyszNY

The new tools make the realisation of the story easier to achieve, and they enable a constant rise in technical quality and in democratisation of the form.

It does look nice, but in all fairness, this film was NOT achieved with the phone alone.
All in all they used extra gear worth 2900 dollars to make the 750 dollar phone shoot that doc.
Not counting the use of the DJI Phantom.... and the all-star, iPhone watch apearing a lot on the wrist of the doc guys in the bts video.

So... 4600 dollars, how much more to get rid of the moire in a camera made for the job?

Gear used:

The mCam cradle: http://www.actionlifemedia.com
SLR Adaptor: http://www.actionlifemedia.com/encinema
Canon EF 50mm 1.2
Nikkor 50mm 1.2
Sennheiser MKE 400 mic

In all fairness, pretty much the same pieces of gear you would have added to a DSLR or other camera.

Both you and I know that wasnt the point of what I wrote..... The point was that this film is silently trying to market the iPhone 6 as a standard film making device to people who arent into the gear thing or BTS thing.
I hate those kinds of things.... Its BS.

See I didn't get that feeling at all. What I saw was a Doc that happened to be shot with an iPhone. And they even listed the gear they used.

Lets be honest. We live in a time where camera technology has advanced to the point where if you can't take pretty pictures with almost any modern camera available, then it's not the cameras fault.

All the best!

I use my iphone all the time. That doesn't change the fact that they could increase the dynamic range. Until then I'm still using it.
