I talked to the Japanese about this concept they said that they are targeting the same crowd as the HVX200A and HPX170 camera owners. They want this one to be affordable. We will have to see about what we will need to get for the workflow. The new AVC ULTRA is interested.

Sincerely,

I read an artical in Time magazine about the 3D marketing and I'm suprised to already see a cam being developed for us...

Don´t want to rain into the parade but I´m not gonna see that coming.

3D is around for decades now and never got a broad market because you need to wear ether some sort of googles or have to sit still in a certain prosition and distance - not moving your head to much. Plus most poeple get headaches when they watch it for more than an hour.

New cameras and codecs are not gona change that.
It will be arround as a gadget for a while (like several times since the 40s)
and will be shown in some theaters. But I´m not see this coming to every home in the moment.
Other technics, that overcome that problems may cange the situation thou.

As far as I understand, the ability to change the distance between the two focal points is rather essential, to the process of creating 3d content. This camera does not appear to have that possibility.

That camera looks an HPX170 with a 3D lens, and it does AVC-Ultra. Should we expect an HPX170A with AVC-Ultra in the future without the 3D Lens?

My first instinct is to agree with Postmaster. Its a novel idea.

We'll leave it at that.

That's my first reaction as well, but then again, that is what people said about cinema, then talkies, then TV, then color etc. So where is it going from here? Things evolve and at a certain point, getting more and more HD will become pointless. I mean nobody really needs a 28k camera.

Pana has challenges of way bigger proportion at the moment. I find the whole prosumer 3d concept distracting...maybe even downright dumb.

If you could project a hologram (like the home movies in Minority Report), 3d would be great. It's current limitations make it a theater novelty at best. I just rented my bloody valentine 3D. Too much goggle annoyance for the amount/quality of 3D scenes.

It just isn't quite there, especially when watching at home.

It should be noted that there is no "New 3D P2 Camera from Panasonic." At best there is a prototype floating around at Panasonic HQ that may or may not ever see release. I mean, by this logic we might as well say that Canon has a 3D MiniDV camera because there was a prototype 3D lens made for the XL1 back in the day.

I thought that Canon actually released that lens? Not just a prototype, but actually delivered?

Home 3D is certainly in its infancy. I was surprised that my new 67" DLP is 3-D ready; it has 1080/60p capability and a port for plugging in 3-D glasses.

But yes, calling this an actual 3D P2 camera is extremely premature. This was no more than a trial balloon, for people to give their feedback as to whether they thought there was a reason for a product like this to come out. It's certainly not an announced product, there's no indication from the company that they would actually produce this product, it was more of a general indication that Panasonic intends to aggressively pursue home 3D.

We need RED to make prosumer 3D happen...
