New 35 PICS

its not the computer, compression maybe, but it still doesnt explain why on the same focal plane, things that are in focus near the center are not in focus on the edges of the frame.

I saw this, too. There are some stills that you've posted that have a sort of "circular smearing" effect near the edges. I'm looking for the footage now to be more specific...

p.s. If I had to guess the issue, it would be that you simply didn't zoom through the macro enough, or that the macro is too high a power for your diameter.

I had an early +17 macro prototype made for the Go35 that was hella distorted at 52mm round.

Which one??? There where a few that I was messing around with, by adding a another ring to get a foot closer. That might be what you saw, but these are just tests. I've been playing around with new ideas, and different pieces of glass.

Yea I tried adding 3 macros before, and yes it does get really distorted.

I HAVE FIGURED IT OUT!!

After testing the newer ideas and saw what you guys were talking about, I found that the smudge on the edges was due to the MF being to low (MF06). So the new idea with adding a spacer, had nothing to due with it. But I thank you guys for pointing that out!

New Music Video!

The editing is not done yet, this is just a sample. There's still some stuff that needs to be tighten up, but thought I'd share.

Equipment used

- two lights (1500 watts) $70.00
- three strobe lights $44.85
- dolly and track $120.00 (the cost to make it)
- DVX 100b
- ifocus koinca f1.4 adapter
- fog machine $30.00

This was a very low budget MV that was pulled off in 2 hours. The band wanted a little bit of a dreamy, grainy look to it, so yes you'll see some grain and some of the footage is soft. This is a rock band called Currents from Gainesville, Florida and if you would like to check them out here

They sound like the Killers. They really are a VERY VERY Good band.... I kinda want to buy their album if its available.

The video looked good.

The adpter seems tooooo soft, but luckily it gave the video a nice aire to it. I think Super sharp footage isnt to good anyway, but this adapter seems excessive.

Not yet. They're in the process of making them.

Yes it was soft, the singer wanted a blur over the footage to give it that dream look. I was going to put that in the description in my post, It being soft. I knew that some of the guys would say something, anyway. I overlaid most of the clips and applied a Gaussian Blur to give it that look. I was going to use the MB, but it takes FOREVER to render. Thank you for the comment

yea no problme.

I just listened to a couple of their other songs, they really are bonefide talented guys... i loved all their stuff.

im excitedi hope they get the chance to make a few albums...

The truth is, 35mm adapters are a unique way for indie filmmakers to get the type of depth of field seen only with cinema prime lenses. And the results have stepped up the game of what we can expect from images captured by fixed-lens video cameras.

If you look at these adapters as a tool to add a "unique look" to your images, instead of a way to mimic "FILM", then the comparisons with emulsion-based media that seem to endlessly appear on boards like this, might simply disappear.

These adapters are variations of first generation solutions to a very specific problem.
The adapter you choose should provide you with the look YOU find aesthetically pleasing, (think of it like selecting a sound system...one man's PERFECT speaker is another man's least favorite.)

Yeah, but everyone seems to be looking for a specific look; it's more of an objective thing than a subjective thing. For sound systems; it's subjective, because everyone has their own set of criterias; their own preference (unless people are aiming for ultra-neutral sound). But for 35mm DOF adapters, most people would agree on the same set of criterias. They want the DOF of 35mm film, same field of view, but without light loss, grain, etc.

Some people would disagree on which DOF adapter to use because they may hold a bias, the footage they see may be unfair, etc.

yea but some adpaters just have a nice look that isnt very neutral. The Letus has a nice low contrast look to it, where as the G35 is more neutral. The M2 is just absolutly sharp but has muted color. The sg35 has a Mojo* to it that i find the "best". its not the sharpest, or best adapter for everyone but its the one i liked the best. I agree with the quoted statement above.

Yes, I definitely agree with the statement above. The reason I made my own, the ifocus is because, that's the look I was searching for. I guess building your own adapter is the best thing to do, fitting your own needs.

iim in the midst of making it, but i wanna see if other peoples makes give a better result. JNow that ive seen the contrast between the CO 7 diopter and the asian macro, im not sure what to build any, more.

To tell you the truth, this is not for everyone (the adapter). What I mean is that some people might know what they're doing as far with the dvx, but this takes it to a whole another level. Now I'm not saying that you might not be able to figure it out, but is does require some skill to use it properly. You making one will help you understand it more and understanding the difficulty in making an adapter. The adapter that inspired me was the, http://www.enormousapparatus.com/. I just reinvented the wheel, but the full credit goes to this guy (I've never spoken with the guy, but his adapter was the that I wanted.)

This is the adapter not only did it inspired me to make my own and understand how it works, but it also saved me a ton of money (that kinda sound like a geico commercial Ha Ha) . I at one point was going to buy the P+S with a set of cooke s4/ primes, but after hearing the price, and after my jaw dropping (I still wanted it). (Now believe me when I say this) I was willing to sell my car and other stuff to have it. So what I'm trying to say is not to give up if you're so close, and if that doesn't work out for you, then PM me. I'd be happy to make you one.

Thank you Chris

UPDATE!!

I've received the NEW 2000 GRIT GG today, that I'm going to be testing for the next couple of weeks! My theory is that it will cut the grain issue in half (for those who don't like it), so I'll keep everyone posted with the testing.

hey man, actually all those links you sent me for tests dont work, your bandwidth issues or something. got any other hosts? really want to see that footage.
