I use the Km 185 as main mic. for all my documentary shooting, great in a boom pole, amazing for interior recording and great for interviews. I love it. I've heard everything about the reliability of the MKh50, but I never have a single problem with my KM185, it has been in jungle in Venezuela, in humid Cuba, in desert Irak. Nothing happened. I can't say the same about the KM184, very sensitive to Rf issues. other thing about the Km 185, it seems never gets overloaded, even in rock concerts.
that sounds like a good decision. I heard great things about the AkG Ck 93.Thanks for the response Rafael. I ALMOST bought one. But i didnt.. i just wasnt hearing much. I ended up going with the AKG CK93 BLUE for about half the price, and used the rest of the money for a decent boom pole and shock mount.
Heres what im gathering about the KM185;
It seems like its a great mic for dialogue for films, but is just underrated and not that well known as compared to a mkh50 or a MK41. I cant even find much on it online. But the people that do speak about the km185 , like you, speak highly of it.
