I have been a video editor for the past 8 years and am proficient in a number of programs. In the last year 2 years, I have purchased 2 Hi-Def cameras and shot a couple of weddings and corporate events. But I am not really connected in my city, I do not know the big players or anybody at all in the video industry here. How would you recommend for me to get my name out there as a professional in the video industry? Are there any good business networking clubs or organizations that you all know of that could help a guy in the video business make connections?

I am really motivated to take the next step and feel that I have both the camera and post skills necessary to do professional work. Thanks for any suggestions that you may have.

You could watch the tv / film / video listings on Craigslist and post in that section as well. Also give your local Film Commission a call.

I don't know that there is such a thing as a big player in Indy.

The only semi-organized club/organization is the indyfilmco-op.org. I dunno what they did to their website but the forums have seemed to disappear.

Your best resource for the Indianapolis scene is probably: http://indyfilmnews.com/postnuke/index.php and http://www.indianaactors.com

I'll be back in town in a few months and might be working on a few gigs while I'm back. Maybe we can collaborate?

Thanks for the info chris f, I'll definitely check them out. I checked with SCORE which is a small business startup organization that gives free counseling for anyone wanting to start a small business. Just in case anyone else is interested, they told me about a group call BNI or Business Networking International. They have chapters in most of the major cities. I haven't talked to anyone in the organization yet but my understanding is that they meet for breakfast once a week, and you can bring business cards and flyers and network with other businesses to see who needs what. They will also give you time if you want to give a talk about the services that you provide. I am going to check more into it next week and I'll report back here with what I find out.

If anyone else has any other suggestions as to how to become connected, especially as it relates to video work, I would really appreciate it. I would love the opportunity to be on a commercial shoot or a small film to help out in any way and learn as well.

Chris, send me a PM when you get back to Indy. I would be very interested in collaborating, learning, exchanging ideas or possible work. Thanks.
