So I thought I'd re-watch Super 8 yesterday on Netflix Streaming. I originally watched in theaters so I knew it was shot anamorphic. IMDB says it was shot 2.35.1... not sure if that's accurate, or if it was actually shot 2.39.1.
But on Netflix Streaming (via Xbox 360), it streamed in 16.9. It was obvious from some very dubious framing that it was being pan/scanned. There's a button on the player to adjust the aspect ratio, but for me it changed nothing no matter what setting I was on. The same thing happened for Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol.
Is this normal for Netflix? Am I missing a setting on the Xbox to display the content in the original aspect ratio?
For the record, my wife "thought it looked fine the way it was."
