I've been a subscriber since 1998 and was happy when Netflix expanded to the East Coast around the time I moved here. We've always been champions for them when we talk to our friends about technology - especially when we know they still frequent video stores. We have seen our plan slowly become more and more expensive. Originally, we had the three-disc service and have now ratcheted it down to streaming + 1. The discs (often Bluray) just sit around once we receive them and they often do so for a couple weeks at a time. I've had few if any issues with playback of discs over my decade of service with them - in fact, they've simply written-off a few misplaced / lost-in-the-mail discs over the course of our relationship. Try that one out with your local video store or RedBox / Blockbuster machine.
That all said, I feel like I'm getting a diminishing return on this situation. The availability of streaming titles, which we watch predominantly, needs to increase exponentially. The titles should also be available in the original aspect ratio in addition to a "defacto" 16:9 at HD quality. Netflix has revolutionized the industry and their biggest challenge isn't the competition but the legacy of their own quality products and service.
