Netflix Instant Watch: What are you watching?

I actually just signed up last night.
I only have a wii for streaming direct to tv which only outputs 480p.

Are all streaming vids standard def?
I could hook my macbook pro up to the 50' each time but I see that not being
very convenient.

I have a Samsung Blu Ray player that streams Netflix to the TV (as well as Pandora, Youtube, and whatever Blockbuster's streaming service is). The HD content looks great for 720p

I love discovering gems on the Instant view. Some recent ones I discovered.

Felon(very under rated I think it went straight to DVD)
YPF(If you've ever been in a relationship you have to see this)
Manito(Goes to show, story triumps over type of camera any day)
Finding Amanda(Another under rated film, Mathew Broderick is excellent in this)
Brooklyn Rules(Surprise how good this was)
Cash Back(Very creative I loved this)
Fiona(This was disturbingly briliant, the average person will hate it, but I like weird stuff)

And I absolutely love discovering good Docs on there, here's a few.
The King of Kong(Being a video game nerd and a film maker this is the perfect marriage)
E-dreams(Sad, very sad but its documentary filmmaking at its best)
Drug Wars, Silver or Lead(This is like watching an engaging CNN story for 2hrs.)
American Swing(One of the best docs I've seen, it's in my top 10)
Street Fight(This is also in my top 10)
Overnight(every filmmaker should see this)

I love Netfix, hope you guys keep this going and list your discovered gems on Instant View.

The Wii will only do standard def.... but, there are tons of devices out there that will stream hd to your tv...

The computer also has hd content as of at least a few months ago... though, not as much content is available in hd on the comptuer as is on an xbox360, bluray player, ps3, etc...

Wii, howver... is Standard Def only.

Art & Copy was awesome. Glad it finally came to streaming since I wasn't able to attend the screening when it originally came to town. Actually got to meet Lee Clow a couple of weeks ago. Suh-weet. I'll have to check out Helvetica.

Been watching lots o DOCS

Art & Copy

We Live In Public

Otherwise, we have a ton of kids' shows queued up, along with some older stuff I know my wife will never watch -- Dirty Harry, Winning, Grand Prix, etc.

I started watching "The IT Crowd" on IFC and noticed they have the first three seasons on Netflix Instant Watch. Nothing deep but some great writting and funny characters.

"The Ordinary Boys; Where do they get these crazy names?"

We recently watched -

Donnie Darko
The Bodyguard
The Business of Being Born

and I discovered Arrested Development (all 3 seasons) on there and watched through all of them.

Just watched The Five Obstructions last night. Also highly recommend the FX series Archer. The first season is on Neflix, I think the second season comes to FX next year.

+1 on the Samsung BD players. Fantastic value for the money. We got the BD-P1600 last fall when it came out and opted to hard-wire it CAT5 into our router for streaming. The WiFi option dongle adds another $150. It firmware updates itself once every couple of months. Feature-length HD content buffers in about a minute. Only once did we lose connectivity during a movie, and when the cable modem was re-powered, there were no further issues. Very cool

I've mostly used Instant to catch up on Showtime's stuff and going back through any classics I can.

In the queue...

How to Marry a Millionaire
Rashomon
The Bicycle Thief
Niagra
The Big Sleep
Foreign Correspondent
His Girl Friday
Beat the Devil
Brief Encounter
NY, I Love You
8 1/2
Elevator to the Gallows
Pierrot Le Fou
The Lady Vanishes
Seven Pounds
Mr. Hobbs Takes a Vacation
The Messenger
The 39 Steps
Cheaper by the Dozen
(original with Myrna Loy)
When You're Strange

Watched it again last night. Can't remember how, but I'd only seen half of it before. I was completely transfixed!

Great recommendations!!! My instant queue is growing.

Check out Timecrimes!!! So well done, with that euro-indie pacing and a gripping story.

helluva movie. and i hear Brad Bird is doing the next Mission Impossible.

Aww man. Why isn't he doing "The Incredibles 2?" I've been waiting for more of the original since it came out! Best animated flick of all time, imo...

As for what am I streaming? Well, based on Terry's recent thread, I guess I'm going to see if the original True Grit is available. sigh.

speaking of animation on netflix instant, i watched an amazing australian movie called Mary and Max with voices by Philip Seymour Hoffman, Toni Collette, and Eric Bana.

watching Rescue me season 3. really good so far. never watched it before cause i wasnt a big Denis Leary fan

I was down at Reel FX/Radium here in Dallas a few weeks ago doing some minor edits on a client's spot. A new guy had joined the team (actually, he was taking my place as I was moving off the account -- boo!), so we got the tour again. Walked by a guy doing some character sketches on a Wacom and he told us what he was up to, yadda yadda. After we walk away, the editor who was giving the tour casually mentioned, "You guys see 'Iron Giant'? Yeah, that was Brad Bird. He did that."

Watched Dragonfly the other night. Honestly one of Costner's better performances IMO.

Also been watching The Office a lot lately.
