Nested surround projects always downmix to stereo

I was under the impression that one could nest a 5.1 surround project inside another 5.1 timeline with everything intact but it seems as if every time I do this the tracks downmix to stereo, even if both projects have the exact same settings. But the thing is I've definitely heard that doing this is possible so what stupid little thing am I missing? Everything I've read about this both online and in the Vegas help file is rather vague in regard to this issue.

I have NO IDEA, but I'd make absolute certain that the nested project settings are surround, and that the downmix button on the preview in the nested project is not selected. Then save the nested project, and open the master and see if you still have a problem. Other than that I have no idea, but it wouldn't surprise me if it wasn't supported.

Yeah you're probably right, the only thing the vegas help files says about is that "The output from the nested project's master bus is used to create the audio event. If you nest a 5.1 surround project, the audio event will be a stereo downmix of the surround master bus" but it seemed like a few people on the official Sony messageboards got it to work so who knows.

Obviously there's a million ways around this from exporting 6 mono wavs and bringing them into the master timeline to copy/pasting the channels from another instance of Vegas but being able to do it totally nested would be a lot less work.
