neoscene cannot convert 'icod' format

I have a home VHS video tape that was recorded to .mov format. The vhs no longer exists and I now cannot play that .mov on Vegas or anything in windows.

I've tried VLC, Cineform NeoScene, Mediaplayer, Quicktime, and Mediaplayer classic, but I just get errors all saying they can't play 'icod' format. I google searched but found no solution.

The only thing that will play this video is quicktime player on a Mac. This does not help me since I use Vegas.

I've been messing around with 'Compressor', and Quicktime 'Export' on Mac in an attempt to get something that will work on the PC, but after 2 hours of converting to several formats, no luck so far.

There must be a way to convert this file for use in Vegas, and there must be a way to do it without having a Mac. I was going to sell the Mac as I use PC, but I'm loathed to keep an entire computer just in case I need to convert a single .mov file in the future. I've never come across anything like this in my life; I refuse to believe there is no solution. What can I do to get this blasted video working in Vegas, and is there a PC-solution for this?

Thanks

PS- this is in the right sub-forum I think, the forum just wouldn't let me edit the title

The icod codec is what's known as an AIC (Apple Intermediate Codec) and no PC anywhere can play this file :(
You're on the right track using a Mac to convert the file into something a PC can understand.
I'm not a Mac user but have received several .mov files (even ProRes) from Mac users and have never had any problems opening them with Vegas Pro 10 so I know it can be done.

I managed to convert the file to '.mov h.264' using Compressor on Mac. Now it plays correctly in Vegas, but won't render to any format; the audio ends up out of sync, video is slowed down and sqewed. I also still cannot convert it correctly with Neoscene; there is no audio. (!)

I don't have this trouble with any other format. Does anyone know what's the process to get this working?

h.264 is what's called a delivery format and not what I would use to edit.
There has to be an option in Compressor to give you a regular MOV file.

Mov is just a wrapper surely, what do you mean by 'regular MOV file'?

Generally, one would convert H.264 using Neoscene before editing, but I tried and it was unable to convert the audio, so I'm still stuck.

What do you mean by 'regular MOV'? Can you elaborate? What settings should I use in compressor?

As I said earlier, I've never used a Mac so my replies are based on what I've read in other Vegas forums.
I'm not sure why you couldn't work with the h.264 file.
Do you have a newer computer with a large enough CPU?
I asked a friend of mine who uses Final Cut about Compressor and here was his reply.

Within Compressor you need to select 8-bit NTSC Apple Video Codec to make a QuickTime movie or maybe an animation codec.

If this still doesn't work, find an experienced FCP user and pick his/her brain.
