Didn't know whether I'd get a better response from the 5D subtopic or here but here goes:
I'v been struggling a little trying to get my 5D footage to look right and edit smoothly on my PC. This is partially because I'm in need of an upgrade but also because the editing workflow doesn't seem as easy in Premiere as it is in Final cut. In this instance and in case of most new formats, I definitly see the benefit of using Final cut even though I prefer editing on Premiere...but I digress.
I downloaded the trial of Neo scene since it seems that cineform is the simplest viable solution to converting 5D footage to obtain proper black and white levels. I converted some test clips and everything seemed to work fine. The convertion log said that the 5D footage was corrected for luma yada yada.
I opened up a new project in premiere and set my project rendering codec to uncompressed 4:2:2. I dumped in the original 5D footage and the converted AVI from neo scene. Whe looking visually at the footage the 5D footage actually looked like it has more detail in the blacks. On th YC waveform the neo scene avi looks like it has slightly wider range of tones. When I look at the footage str8 in the camera though, its clear that the blacks are a lot more open than both files in premiere.
WHat should I be looking for exactly to test if my black levels are properly converted and is there anything thats clearly wrong in my workflow?
Thanks!
