Neo 2 or Vegas Movie Studio 10 or Elements

Hi All-

Sorry if this has been discussed already, but I did a search and did not find anything recently.

I would like some opinions on which software is better:
---Edius Neo 2
---Vegas Movie Studio 10
---Adobe Elements

My computer is fairly powerful: i7-920xm / 16GB 1333 mHz ram / Samsung SSD drives / 1GB Nvidia Quadro FX3800 mobile video card.

Primary camera is a Pany GH1, generally shooting at 720/60P; Mixing footage with various other sources such as : AVCHD lite from a Pany ZS7; MOV files from a Sony H5; and Mini DV from my older camcorders;

Clips vary from kids fast moving sports (basketball, soccer, swimming, and baseball) to family events.

I need to:
---Review and catalog the clips
---Pick out highlights and integrate them into several 15 minute videos (SD & HD as well as 16x9 and 4x3)
---Create Simple transitions

Is any one solution better at mixing all of these formats?

Can I edit in native formats with any of these programs?
ie: Can I put SD 4x3 on a timeline with 720P 16x9 and MiniDV without a huge amount of work to transcode them all to one format?

Anything else I should know?

Thanks in advance for the help!

PS - I am technically competent (engineer) if that makes a difference.

Great review! And great footage on your quad/bikes!

Have you been able to mix formats on the same timeline easily?

In particular I want to mix:

--640x480 at 30fps in mpg format
--1280x720 at 60fps in AVCHD
--1920x1080 at 24fps in AVCHD
--640x480 downloaded from my mini-dv camcorder

I was told that Edius Neo was the only current program that will do that natively, without transcoding to a different format.

Thanks!

I just posted a review of Vegas Movie studio 10 HD.

I never used the others but Vegas Plat 10 HD can do everything you asked. But Don't take my word for it, download the trial version and try it out. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask me.

Yes mixing and matching different frame rates and resolutions are no problem. I do it all the time.
I shoot mostly 60 FPS at 1280 x 720 and mix in some 1920x1080 at 30 FPS. Usually rendering the final project at 720 - 30 FPS. With no problems.

Ok I just mixing the following FPS in a single time line in Vegas Plat 10HD. 24, 25, 30 and 60. Rendered it 1280x 720 @ 30 FPS no problem. And I mixed in different file types MP4, MOV and MTS files. I always "thought" Vegas could do it and now I know for sure it can!

But again DL the trials and make sure. I haven't used the other and maybe they too will work equally as well. Good luck.

Thanks so much for the help!

I am going to try Vegas.

PS - I know I should probably dowload all the trials and compare them before making a decision, but I hate installing and uninstalling programs... they never uninstall completely and always mess something up.

In the days of winXP I used GoBack which allowed you to revert back immediately after trying a program... but now with Win7 it appears the only true way to revert is to relaod an image which has its own issues.

Anyway, thanks for the help!
