I bought the Sennheiser G2 kit today. I put a Sure SM58 on the transmitter and it sounds better than I thought it would. So I am happy with the sound but there seems to be alot of handling noise from that mic. I guess I should have bought one of the Sennheisers.

But so far the lav is another story. It sounds extremely bad. I cannot imagine anyone using it the way it sounds. I messed around with the settings and it did not get better at all. Anyone have any clue why the lav could sound so bad? I have it at the same settings as the handheld at the moment.

How does it sound bad? Can you describe it please. Overdriven, scratchy, noisy, tinny? Maybe then I can help.

You need to turn the output WAY down. The sm58 is an insensitive mic and the lavs are way hotter. Turn the output dial down on the transmitter and then play with the levels on the receiver. I guarantee you'll be happy with what you have there. Lavs should be within 6-12" of the speaker's mouth and then set levels accordingly.

If you think that Shure mic sounds good and the lav sounds bad in comparison then there's a setting wrong on your wireless set. They should sound of similar quality or if anything, the lav should sound BETTER... even the stock cheapy. Turn the transmitter down to 1/3 output and then bring the receiver up until you like what you hear.

Ok, it sounds better now. Not sure why it sounded so bad before but plugged it in this morning and got it working good. I would not say it sounds better than the SM58 but it sounds good.

Matt, do you not like the SM58 with this Senn wireless system?

I think the lav that comes with the system is pretty darn good, considering what you paying for the overall system. You should be happy with that system, I sell and rent tons of those, and get nothing but postive feedback from customers.

Monster, the sm58 is a fine mic... it's not that I don't like it, but it's somewhat weak and neutral sounding... not neutral sounding like a Schoeps is neutral sounding... I just mean that it's not particularly flattering. I had a Beyerdynamic m58 and while it worked okay with the wireless it wasn't flattering to voice either. The thing is... wireless is for solving problems, not getting the best possible sound compared to a wired setup... so if you chase "wired sound" when you're using wireless... you're gonna' be unhappy. In my opinion, if your sm58 sounds as good or better then the lav, when both are running wireless... then you're doing pretty good... or the lav isn't setup right.

I never used the stock lavs from my wireless systems... I use trams and an mke2 red dot... so maybe that's why my lavs sound better then my stick mics...? I played with a G2 and stock lav though and I was really impressed... so I don't know what to tell you on that...
