Need video capture/firewire card for PC

Suggestions? In my rush to score a new DVX, I forgot that I'll have no way of getting the footage onto my pc.

Should I go with a PCI card, or are those USB-to-firewire adapters worth a darn?

My apologies if this has been covered a million times. I'm having a hard time finding relevant posts when I search.

Just about any PCI based 1394 (FireWire) card will work just fine. Never tried a 1394 to USB bridge (would have to be USB 2 to have enough bandwidth) but it would seem that the format conversion could impact the throughput, maybe not enough to be an issue, but it would be an extra burden on the machine.

A USB-to-Firewire adapter doesn't sound like a good idea to me although I've never used one. I wonder if video capture software would even recognize your cam with it hooked up that way. PCI firewire cards are pretty cheap. Here's the one I'm using on my PC running WinXP.
