Long story short:

My bank hit me with 9 $34 overdraft charges.........

My line of equity payment came in a day early and put me in the red.... then 8 other small payments came through and killed me.... Tried speaking with them twice and they basically told me to **** off.... WTF! That's straight up robbery! I have thousands in my savings and they should of pulled it from there which obviously they didn't because they wouldn't make any money by working with me that way. **** Bank of America...... Fleet was better and before that Summit was the bomb! I was with this bank for 11 years through thick and thin and this is how they service a long lasting customer!

I also bank with Chase so guess where ALL of my $$ is going now? Bye bye Bank of America! Hope they go down soon because their service sucks! They can keep my $300 and eat ****.

That sucks man.

I was lucky enough to have met this really cool lady at one of my national banks over the phone when I did my first overdraft, and after a bit of flirting she gave me her private extension and said if I ever overdraft again to call her and she'll remove the charge. Well I have had to call her once or twice since and she kept her word both times.

So I guess my advice is start kissing up to the bank's phone ladies. Show some of the coffee smoothness.

Yeah, that sucks! Don't blame YOUR bank though: they just about ALL do the same thing.
It's not for no reason that Banks, and Insurance companies are called legalized Criminals.

I would suggest you set up a small savings account, which is linked to that checking account. That does work.....the small prerequisite is that you can come up with sufficient funds to even start the savings acount though!

Hey Coffee, I feel your pain, man. That's happened to me before. You give a bank your business and money for years, then the **** you over bullshit charges like that. Anyway, when it happened to me, I went in and personally talked to a banker. The phone reps won't ever do **** for you. If you're polite and explain your circumstances, they will probably drop at least half those fees. Just say you've been a loyal customer, you had the money in a savings account at their bank, etc. I know it blows to have to be nice and suck up, but it might save you some money. It can't hurt to try. No matter the outcome, you can always change banks. There are lots of them out there waiting to take your money. Hang in there. :(

Some banks have overdraft protection, where if you overdraw, then it's like borrowing money on your credit card. You get a high interest loan, but no fees and the checks don't bounce.

thanks guys..... I actually thought I had protection against this when I upgraded my account status during my equity line of credit process. I just went to the bank and spoke with the woman here and she's going to try to help but who knows,,,...... It's still my money and I want it back in full....

Dude . . .

I feel your pain, really . . . if it's BS, it's BS . . .

But if your LOE payment “came in a day early,” doesn’t that mean you kited a check? Sounds like you gambled and lost. That’s not the bank’s fault.

Did you bounce checks? If not, then you do have overdraft protection, and the bank charges you for that protection...$34.00 a shot to be exact.

With my bank, I can set it up that if I happen to overdraw, they will pull the money from another account (different checking, savings...whatever) cover it. I'd say you need to set something like that up.

All banks are straight up robbery man....just the way it is.

And yeah...it sucks....but I have a little bit of trouble feeling sorry for anyone with 'thousands in their savings'. Sounds like you need transfer some money around.

that happened to me, I called up my bank (wells fargo) and asked them to make a deal: to only pay half of the fees. They aggreed, and once paid off I dumped them and hooked up with wamu (awesome bank)

I went in personally to wells fargo when it happened to me, and I got it cut down by over half. It does suck though that you can get charged 30+ dollars for over charging like 2 bucks. For me, it happened when someone cashed a check I had written months after, and then I bought some coffee....lame. Anyhow, I talked it down, and now I have my Visa protecting my checking account, so now I get one 10 dollar charge (even if there are multiple overdrafts) plus whatever the amount of the overdraft was. That sucks though coffee....

Coffee- Dude don't give up. It's sometimes just a matter of talking to the right person. The people on the phone are detached from the customer (that's why businesses love having call centers). Listen to Richie White and PDX, go down there and talk to someone face-to-face. You're a good looking guy, make sure it's a woman and tell her your sob case. They might take half the fees away.

Jubal28, I didn't cut a check to them, it was automated and A DAY EARLY! No gamble done there.

wadespencer99, bro, lol, I'm not looking for sympathy and trust me... Alos, I'm not even close to being rich, well off or comfortable financially..........

I think I'm still on tilt over this whole thing because both of your comments pissed me off...... lol, I'm trying to cool off and laugh at myself but that bank really pushed my button. It drives me nuts that a three dollar purchase really costs me $37......

Lol, thanks PK... My wife said to "speak to a woman over there and that even if it takes me bending the woman over the desk and giving her some" that she'd be ok with it! Geez, my wife rocks! LOL

If they won't take away some of the fees then point to the duffle bag (near your feet) and tell them you've got a shotgun. Of course we all know you mean a boom mic, but customer service reps don't know that.

If your busted, I will delete this message and claim I never heard of you.

ROFL

My comment wasn't meant to piss you off...but thousands in the bank means you're a lot more comfortable than I am!! Now imagine getting charged that 30 bucks there is no savings! That is flat broke...lol

Dude...your wife rocks, btw.

Hitting you with that charge 9 times is ridiculous however. I would tell them you're going to pull all your business (including the money in your savings, which should bother them a little bit) and go to a new bank if they refuse to work with you. Maybe ask for a manager or someone a little higher up than the person answering the phone.

I've only had one good instance with a bank on something like this...and even though it was entirely their fault, I didn't expect them to make it right. I had lost my debit card and ordered a new one. When it came in, they tied it to the wrong checking account (I have two...one business, one personal). I was away that weekend, using that card for everything, not knowing it was pulling from the wrong account the entire time. You can imagine the bounced fees. It took me awhile to figure it out, but once I did, and the bank understood, they made it right, which really amazed me.

Good luck man.

Edit: and you said a payment came out a day early? As in, some other lending agency took a payment out of your account a day before they were supposed to? Yeah...I'd be calling them up.

yea, the day early payment seems a bit off....And yea, deffinetly do talk to a woman, that's what I did and I had some success......I didn't bend her over the desk though......and also, I love the machine guns in your original post!

FYI, the issue with bank of america is regarding their "pending" system.

Basically a charge will go through, and it will show it to you in pending immediately. Then a day later it removes the charge from pending and credits your account back the money. A few days later, on a specified day, it will batch process a ton of debits in a row.

The problem with this, is if you don't use a register, or watch your account like a hawk, you'll see a charge go through and think "oh yeah, its been paid", log in a day later, to check your balance, and think you have XXX dollars left. If you don't keep track, you won't realize you are off by a hundred or so. Then you spend the money and get nailed.

The other thing BOA does, is, instead of process stuff in order of date, they process by amount. When they do the batch process, they unload the largest items first, smallest last. This ensures that if you overdraft, you'll overdraft a LOT of items.

I've had 10 charges all under 10$ cost me 34$ each. The other thing BOA does is increase the amount you get hit for whenever you get overdrafted. I believe it starts at like 27$, and continuously increases over time, as a penalty for overdrafting.

It really is robbery. Its tantamount to the "dirty secret" late fees of the video industry. You can only pray that eventually it comes out for the scam it is.

I'd like to be the customer service rep at your WIFE'S bank. Seems she knows how to get good service, so that it's a win-win for all....
