I am buying the DVX100A in the next day or so and I was wondering what else I should buy, if anything, I have a tripod....But the real question is besides the Anamorphic Lens what else is there to get, is it worth buying a telephoto for it, or keep what it has, also what about those wide angles you see is it worth it or is it just a scam.....Also where should I buy the equipment if I need it, any help would be greatly appreciated, Thank You

you should test out the cam by itself first, and then based on your needs for your what your doing decide if you need to look into other accessories or items to suit you needs.

What are your intentions with the new DVX? I cant begin to tell you what you will need until I know this. I might first say "Get a Mattebox!" but you might not have a need for one, I might say "Get a Stabilizer!" but until I know......

Get it?

Get a UV filter to protect that lens :)

Also, get a couple of free days to just shoot, shoot and shoot some more. That's were you will answer your own questions...ala iamloser.

I just attended a lecture by a local documentarian. He said there are two things most every novice overlooks: A good tripod and a good microphone. It sounds like you have the tripod covered. I suppose the next thing is getting a good mic.

Might I suggest the Audio Technica 897? I hear the Sennheiser me66 is good, but I've never used it.

A damn good tripod? A shotgun mic? Some D54 batteries? A Zoe zoom controller?

First - Tripod. Do you have a still camera tripod (friction head)? If so, it may work for the time being, but what you will find is that as you start to pan or tilt, the 'sticky' nature of the friction head will assert itself and no matter how hard you try, your work will look jumpy. Buy a quality video tripod. Search the site for lots of recommedations.

Second - Audio. buy a decent microphone there are lots of good ones. Again, search the site for recommendations.

Third - What do with your captured video? Buy great editing software. With a great editing package, you can fix problems you didn't see when shooting, and improve the stuff you thought was good. Vegas, FCP or even Avid make great editors.

Lastly - Additional stuff to improve the image. If light control is a problem, buy a mattebox. If you need filters to enhance an image, buy a mattebox and square filters. If capturing audio is a problem, buy a fishpole (boom) and a mixer. Also if you are going to export to film consider the anamorphic adapter.

You get the idea, get the basic setup and use your money to enhance what you need at the time.

Cheers. Bill
