Need some help..

Hey guys, I have a quick question..

I'm using a PC, and I'm currently working on a spot for a company in after effects, and they gave me some footage to use but when I drag it into after effects its completely white.. I know windows has some trouble with HDV footage. Is there any way to fix this? I am using adobe premiere pro 1.5 aswell and I read somewhere that premiere supports HDV footage. Is my version just too old? I know I need to upgrade it.. The footage was brought from a mac onto my pc, is that why? Is there a problem coming from FCP to after effects/premiere? I don't know much about FCP. I remember a friend telling me theres a certain HD codec or something that is only usable with FCP. Would that be causing this problem? Any help would be appreciated greatly! thanks!

sorry if this is in the wrong section.. I wasn't sure which to post it in.

Thanks

Hey, thanks for responding..

I'm not sure what camera it was shot on. Unfortunately the client didnt shoot or edit the footage, which leaves me with pretty much no info on that. The files however, are .mov

Thanks

It's either an HDV file captured using an FCP Quicktime wrapper or DVCPRO-HD, in which case neither plays nice with Windows After Effect. I don't believe there's support for them on the version you're using. FCP would be pretty much the only choice for playing them or the Mac based AE. It's stupid, but when HDV files are captured in FCP it's completely unplayable on Premiere and vice versa.

Alright, I figured it was something to do with FCP or my version of premiere. I got CS3 today, and when I try to import it it says im missing the codec.. Is there a codec i can get? If not I have access to FCP on my mac, but my pc is way faster and I'd rather do it on here.

Thanks

I would just recommend using FCP. There's no codec because Apple for some reason decided that their Quicktime file would be only FCP compatible. The files should play smooth as silk in FCP, probably faster than Premiere.

I have just been bitten by the same issue! (When is a .mov not a .mov?)

I am staggered that FCP has its own version of a QT file that is totally useless cross platform or cross applications.

It's all about the codecs wrapped up in the .mov's (just like how you can have hundreds of different .avi's).

I've been running into real problems now that my colleagues are using the (awesome) Apple ProRes 4:2:2 codec for SD masters and HD workflow. No support for it on the PC, end of story.

Something the same here.

I have a Hybrid Suite running CS3 and FCP Studio 2 on a Mac Platform plus PremPro 2/AEFX etc on PC platform.

I thought I had it all covered but it is issues like these that get in the way of a "simple life".
