I was editing a music video last night and everything was fine...got up this morning to edit again and turned on the pc and it booted and then said "USB device over current status detected!!" and under that it says the pc will shut downin 15 seconds, which it does. Several rebooting and Reseting later, it and it does the same thing. I have NO idea what this means.

Anyone?

btw this is an i7 quad core 2.6ghz, vista ulitmate 64bit...running it stock now.

Perhaps you could start by describing what USB device(s) you have plugged in. Did you try unplugging all USB devices? That would be the logical differential diagnosis methodology. Did you Google the exact wording of the error message? What did you find?

hey Richard...yeh i unplugged all the usb devices to no avail. However i did google it afterward and found out another forum that it seems its a shorting issue where the usb connector on the Mobo has a short. so i'm going to search a little more then open her up.

ok so after some reading...and searching i opened her up and unplugged all the usb connectors

it booted fine.
so i started to plug in one by one and see where the problem was. I pinned it down to one connector...and then when i checked the front usb port more closely i saw it was mangled. Meaning the pins were bent and a plastic part that held them had broken off. NO idea how that happened cuz i dont even USE those 2 ports. i use the ones beside them. Luckily i have 10 usb ports...but i;m now just goin to exclusively use the rear ones as they seem more sturdy than the front ones. So i guess that was shorting it.

I never use front USB. Always back. If it's pain in the ass using the back USB... I bought a USB extension cable and I plug USB to that cable.
