Need some help - Film Festivals

Ok... most of you know about or have seen the trailer for my film Smuggler's Ransom. Well, we want to enter it into about 10 festivals, good festivals. I have come to you, the people of DVXuser to ask which festivals you recommend from personal experience or from being there. Thanks!

Tons of fests on Withoutabox.com. Thing with American festivals is you'll have to pay entrance fees and it quickly adds up. A lot of European festivals have no entrance fees. I wouldn't even bother with Sundance, the odds of getting in are very very very slim. You just gotta do some research, and like I said check out some overseas fests.

Yeah, I agree, but SLAMDANCE is a different story. Still difficult to get into, but not anything near as bad as sundance.

Heres one of my favourite Aussie fests - there is an entrance fee which translate to about 45USD

This fest is based in Melbourne, Victoria. They do a travelling version of the film festival which hits a lot of the smaller country towns around Victoria also which means a lot of exposure to Christian communuties - I think there could be strong appeal from the judges because of this - worth a go.

that may be so, but i'm confident my feature length film will make it. i will, however, have to overcome some minor obstacles.

1. i've never done a short before, much less a full length movie.
2. i've never written a screenplay before.
3. i'm the main star and will use friends and relatives as the cast.
4. i'm also the director.
5. i'll be using lighting bought from home depot.
6. i know very little about audio, but i do have one microphone.
7. i have very little experience editing video.
8. i've never really edited audio.
9. my budget is under $7,000.
10. i haven't even finished reading barry's dvx book yet.

so wish me luck. :)

inexpensive, electic, well attended, decent cash prizes and very fun. The festival basically takes over the downtown area, lots of socializing, networking, some actually relevant seminars, did I mention inexpensive (you could actually drive here. . . or there's a direct flight from LA ). Tons of reasonable accomidations since ski season isn't underway yet. They're calling for entries now.
