need some CC help/advice

hey thanks paul... i've been there a ton of times before... for some reason, i'm just not happy with the over all image with this though. I think it's just because i've been playing with my new HD camera. I look at this DVX footage and it doesn't thrill me anymore mainly because of the adapter that I used on it... The DVX (imo) has such a better image without an adapter. Geez, my tastes change too much too fast. LOL

Well, after you do the base CC, you could get fancier. You could clone a layer and then set it to "Screen" on the track above. Maybe a 20% Screen, etc.

I'm no fan of the adapters either. :thumbdown

Jay,

I tried playing with your images in FCP without much luck.

I think the difficulty is caused by the location you shot it in. You have so much sunlight coming in through the windows you had to blast the inside light to compete and it is giving everything a sort of flat look.

Any chance you could reshoot this in a new location?

Chris

I thought about that but it's just not feasible now. Time is the biggest issue... : (

Well, I played with it some more and it looks better, not the best but better. I'd post images but I'm not on that computer anymore.

Might be a bit too bright.. I'm a little worn out after moving to a new place. Didn't yet have the time to do all of them.

From what I understand, this is an ad, so the product has to be bright and colourful.

Problems with the shot - shot on a rainy day, somewhat underlit, and lit rather plainly in all 3 shots. With some time on hands, I would fix the grass to look all green, and make it all a bit brighter. Rainy days with soft shadows make me want to drink tea and lie in front of a TV.

Shake. No masks, so applicable to moving pictures, as long as auto-brightness is off (doh). Some chroma blur, plus a general blur of about 3 pixels to soften the terrible DV and JPEG compression. Don't you have money for a Vipercam?! :D

EDIT: I think I see what's wrong. There is too much yellow in the chips, but the skin tones aren't warm enough. I hope the shot can take a bit more tweaking...

Although, due to the rather uniform cloudy day light, extreme boosts in brightness like this aren't going to magically solve the light problems - her skin starts to look flat and lacks detail.

EDIT 2: The chair looks perfect though.

Just noticed something. But I'm going to leave it up to you to find. Find two obvious differences between the original and the CC-ed shot :)

Hooray. You are the winner!

The colour was lost during the surgery to remove any coolness out of the image. I could manually mask that out, or perhaps trace the mask over time, if I was given more than 1 frame. But why bother =).

Ok, had 5 minutes before going to work.

Fixed the helter skelter, brought back a bit more blacks, and fixed the grass + the wooden fence to look more like it's spring outside. The shadows are still soft, so that kind of gives away the cheating, but I can't really fix that in 5 minutes.

The chair still looks great.

Spidey, my man! Haven't seen you around much.

Thanks for trying man but I said screw it and turned in the final footage this morning.

Your CC looks like a horror/thriller type of image, cool!
