need some advice with my future

Screw film school. Take a major in English and creative writing. Teaching english is a great fall-back profession, plus I think a major in English is more helpful to a filmmaker than film school.

Learn the craft of story. Learn about archtype and centuries old structure. Study Joseph Campbell and Christopher Vogler's version of Joseph Campbell. As a writer / director I find this is the biggest weakness, mine included. It's about the story, and the turns, and the obstcales, amd understanding archtype (not cliche).

If I had it to do over again, this is what I would have done. In a heart beat!

Immerse yourself in film on the side. Take a few film history classes, maybe a basic photo class to learn composition. Watch stuff from all the masters. Film school was more important when you couldn't get your hands on a Hitchcock print, now we got Netfilx.

The biggest short coming in film is almost always the story. It's a struggle, right down to the marrow.

Cheers,
Chris

My two cents:

Unless you are at USC forget film studies. Get a degree in pre law, accounting or something else that pays a lot of money. Then in your free time you hang out with the film students and help them make their films. By the end of your four years (or five if you can afford it) you will have learned a lot about filmmaking, have some good filmmaking friends, and a degree that will get you a well paying job to fall back while you are trying to break into the film business. Hell you could get an accounting degree, go to work for Warner Bros, write a killer spec script and your foot will already be in the door. If I could rewind my life ten years that's what I would have done.
