Need some advice about adaptor and lenses

So I am in the market to shoot a feature and am debating between buying and renting

the letus elite and a set of nikon lenses (24mm f2/50mm f1.4/85mm f1.4) for my hvx

or perhaps renting an elite and renting the lenses.....

the cost to buy is about 2800 for the letus elite and 2000 for really nice set of manual nikon lenses that i posted above, so around 5k.

My question here is because it seems a lot of stuff is coming out soon in regards to the Canon 5d, Scarlet, etc.....and I am not sure making a 5k purchase is wise on my part.

I can basically rent this set up for a month for about 2500.00 and maybe even opt out for cinema style lenses instead of the nikon's.

Any thoughts. Perhaps the new cameras will utilize this gear perhaps not.....I could even just buy it and sell it afterwards and perhaps spend about as much money as I would have renting.

Is the letus elite and nikon good choices on my part?

Just some advise or words of wisdom would be nice

All I can say, is if you opt to go with a dslr, 5d/7d, you will need a whole seperate setup to record good audio.

Another aspect to factor in, as much as you dont think they will, clients will look at the fact that you are shooting with a just a small dslr camera and may not think you know what you are doing. (assuming you don't have a whole rig for the sucker)

Regardless, they do produce great images, but I'll stick with my HPX.

If you are funding the project I'd purchase and then re-sell afterwords. This is IF you have time to purchase, piece together, work out the bugs, deal with possible returns or bad glass, etc.....if you need a kit soon....then by all means rent.

If you are organizing the project, and funding is being supplied elsewhere, then by all means rent.

I'll be quite honest.....the best option is always renting. Purchasing is always best left to those who have the time, expertise, and passion to do so....the Cinematographer.

I think to buy and resell is wise

I disagree in terms of I think to buy is the best option in most circumstances not to rent. Renting I find to be a waste of money....I prefer to buy unless the item is super expensive. I have owned my hvx 200 for 2 years and I have made my money back twice over. Owning is the way to go.

I just don't know how long these adaptors and nikon lenses will be in hot demand with all the new stuff coming out. That is my question.

for the dslr stuff you will have to buy a seperate audio system if doing audio project for sure.

i found a friend that might rent me that lens set for the month for like 800 bucks and a friend has a letus extreme adaptor that he is down to rent for next to nothing....so that may be the way i go
