Hello all,
In the process of uninstalling Final Cut Pro I must have deleting some Quicktime files that are integral to several parts of my system. Can't reinstall FCP, open Word or Quicktime. I did everything I could to get a new Quicktime, but failed--couldn't re-install Quicktime. Took it to Mac Support and they said I need a new hard drive. They said they'd do it for $378 (Yikes!).
I found a lot of internal hard drives for much much less on the net and instructions on how to install them, but will this fix my problem? Can you get a third-party hard drive that has all the mac programs/etc on it? I don't know much about this kind of thing. What should I do? :crybaby:

THANKS!

ABSOLUTELY you can. I had the same issue...my internal hard drive on my PB G4 died. SO I bought a 120GB Seagate, swapped it out myself, then installed the OS fresh, and the FCS package, fresh.

ANY hard drive will work. Apple doesn't make hard drives, so they are ALL third party. They ship with Maxtors, and I have used Western Digital, Hitachi and Seagates in them...as system drives.

Not sure which PB version you have (15", 17", etc...) but here is a GREAT guide to installing a HDD in your PB. I've been working on computers for 7 years but the first time I had to replace a HDD in a PB, I was baffled as how to get to it. 7 years of PC experience does **** for taking Mac laptops apart lol.

As for getting a HDD with everything preloaded, thats going to be kind of tough. Best thing to do is install your new HDD and then run your OS restore DVD that should have come with your package (probably still in the box, next to your manual like mine lol). If you need any help PM me or catch me on AIM (djhypeS14) and I'll help you as best I can.

For some reason my Quicktime started working out of the blue, along with Word and Final Cut. I downloaded JD Stanley/ Barry Green project A Little Mouth to Feed a long time ago, and all the sudden it just popped up! Weird.
Everything's working so far, but I still need to test everything out.
Yeah, I guess I wouldn't really need anything preloaded anyway.
If I do ever need to install an HDD I'll definitely use that site.

I thought I read somewhere that PB G4's can't use SATA drives, they need ATA. Anyone know about this?
