I need a release for using someone's video clips in a documentary. Any one got one or know where to get one free?

Thanks for the reply. I want an agreement form for use of video of a friend's performance in a film. Is that a release or license or what? Actually, that sounds like a license, maybe.

Probably both. You definitely would need to license the use of the video clip from its copyright owner. Note that your friend DOES NOT likely have the legal authority to grant you the permission to use the video clip even though it's a video of him. Copyright to such a work belongs to the person who creates the video, not to the performers who appear in it. Your friend might (should) have signed a release that covers his performance when he appeared in the first video but just to be safe I'd get him to sign a new one for the use of his likeness in yours. But your first hurdle is to get permission to use the video clip from its owner - without it, nothing your friend says or does has any bearing, you can't use the video.

Excellent! Uh, you don't happen to have or know where I can get such a license ag for use of video, preferably free?
Thanks!

Just have the owner type up a waver. It does not have to be templated. You simply need written permission to use his work.
