Need Recommendation for Shockmount

I'm using a Rode NTG-2 on a boom and am in need of a shockmount since the mic is so sensitive. Was going to purchase the Rode sm4 but reviews are horrible. Please give me a heads up on something that gets the job done, in that same price-range ($50).

Thanks in advance.

I've used them for years. I also have the sm4 that I put on mic stands, and the SM5 that I put on my EX1. They come with extra bands, and I've even got more for free by asking nicely. No shock mount is magic, or perfect, but these do quite well.

{{{{EDIT}}}
I see the complaints about the SM4 are due to not having a way to tighten the joint to angle the mic. You can do that on the SM3. The people complaining were using the SM4 for a boom pole, which is the wrong application for that tool.

Chadfish, I actually thought the SM4 was speciafically made for a boom pole -- what IS the proper application for it? I was also under the impression that the SM3 was meant to be used only on a hot shoe.

Anyway, thanks for the help, fellas. If anyone else has any other suggestion please let me know

As I said, the SM4 is designed to use on a mic stand. With the extra piece it comes with you can adapt it for boom pole use. And the SM3 has a hot shoe connection, but there is also a hole to screw a boom pole into. The sm3 has a knob you can tighten to taste too, so it won't flop around. As for the SM4, my unit does not fall loose like the 2 reviewers complained of. Mine is at a perfect tightness to adjust while still staying secure enough to hold the mic in place. So to ensure more control the sm3 has the tightness adjustment. There's some cross purposing here as Rode likes to have multi uses for things. It's usually good to take bad reviews (in general) with a grain of salt. If a lot of people say the same thing it's probably a real issue. But may times there is operator error, or someone is rough with their gear, or the item is not exactly what they expect. Also complainers write more reviews than people who are happy.

I'd say go with the SM3. Then you can use it in your hot shoe as well as on a boom. I have two SM3, one SM4, and one SM5, and a Rode Blimp system. It's good to have various items to cover any situation, because eventually you'll encounter a situation you wish you were prepared for.

Cheers.
