Need Primer on monitoring for color correction

Hello. I've reached the point where I realize the images on my Apple CD do not match what will be seen on the tv screen. At first I was able to tolerate it because it was primarily hobby but now as my material is being used at my job I realize that I need to clean up the color. In particular the images on the tv screen are more saturated and "underexposed" compared to what I see in FC while editing. Darker skin people, for example, lose facial details. Yes, the exposure etc was set properly in the camera.

It looks like it's time for a broadcast monitor, or some solution to see what the final product will really look like when presented. I need to be brought up to speed on this, as all I know is what I've read in the FC users manual and basic stuff on forums.

I looks like CRT is the way to go but I'd like to hear more. I cannot afford a $7k big screen model; can I get by with something smaller for color correction?

Does the monitor have to be HD to color correct or can I use a SD monitor?

Will I need a separate video card to connect to my MacPro tower?

What about conversion boxes that tout themselves as able to display HDTV images on the ACD?

Some suggestions and guidance please ........

Thanks
Bob

CRT isn't necessarily the best way to go nowadays. Many LCDs are getting right up there in the ranks. I can't offer a whole lot of help but can say that I have used the Panasonic 17" HD LCD. HERE, here it is on BH for less though HERE. I used this monitor for one job and didn't have that much time to really run it through the ropes. But just in using it in a short time I was very impressed with the quality, ease of use and all of that.

But to answer some of your other questions.
-No you don't need an HD monitor to CC. But, if you can afford something that will do HD it might be wise to future proof yourself a little bit.

-Yes, you will need some type of way to get the video from your computer to the monitor. I have a Kona LH for video input and output. Something like that would be ideal. This option would be good if you will be capturing as well as monitoring. But there are certainly other options. Especially from AJA and Black Magic.

Shane Ross will have to chime in on the conversion box (Matrox MXO) with an ACD. He does say that he can't tell the difference, so that must be worth something. I haven't heard any bad things I guess. This option is good if all you need to do is monitor.

That's my 2 cents. Just try to does as much research as you can.
