Hey everyone, I recently was asked to give a quote for technology camp. The nature of the camp is for 26 pakistani students to come to the US to learn computer skills. I will be filming all of the lessons, which start around 9am and wrap up around 5pm. This will be daily for the four weeks. I will also be creating a short 1-2minute video daily to be posted online of the days activities.

They have already told me I will be put up in a hotel and all expenses will be paid. When it comes to post production I am unsure what they will want me to do after the 4 weeks.

What would be a reasonable quote to give on a per day basis?

I am also working for a company that has requested a quote for software training videos. these videos will only require screen grabs and voice over. I am finishing up one of the videos which i under quoted. It turned out to be just shy of 8mins.

What would you charge for an 8min video of this nature?

Thanks!

just got off the phone with the company. the event looks like this

4 weeks, 6 days a week.

classes begin around 9am
classes end around 5pm

I record all classes with 2 cameras
I record the screen of the presentation computer

every hour of class will equal out to 3 hours video content

I will then create a daily 1-2minute video taken from b-roll and daily activities to be uploaded to the internet daily.

in addition, after the 4 weeks i will need to edit all of the classes and prepare them for uploading to the client designed online learning interface.

Please help me with a quote.

it will most likely be 28, 12 hour days minimum when all said and done. and then about 2 weeks or so in post production working long days.

keep in mind i will be using 2 of my personal cameras, and my own edit station. they will provide tapes and HD's along with mics and whatever else i may need.

also keep in mind this job could lead to a possible fulltime job with their company.

That sounds aweful. 72 hours a week. Yuck. Anyways... I would consider $100 an hour fairish for you and your equipment assuming that its middle of the road video gear.
72 hours times 100 is 7200 dollars a week, that times 4 is 28,800.
Then add in editing time (which I think your underestimating) You have 160 hours of class roomtime (480 hours of footage) So I'd at least 200 hours of editing and thats if you fly through it. So maybe 20,000 on the editing bringing a total to about $50,000. That seems about right to me.

seejay, thank you for that response. I'm fairly new to the corporate world and to big number jobs. And the lowest calculation i came to was $28,000. So to see that other videographers would charge even more makes me at ease with my calculations.

anyone else out there want to throw in their quote?

right now i have a quote of just over $30,000 i'm going to send them. I'm new to big budget, so I am not going to quote at industry standard, rather a little lower. I do have previous relations with this company, and have a possible FT job opportunity with them in the future, and dont want to some how mess things up...

i dont think u should underquote urself. the figure seejay quoted was already being generous it seems, so based on that i would not go below 45,000. I'm not in the US so i have no idea about market rates there...but i;m just saying this from seejay's post. However that is alot of work, and u should be paid accordingly.
