I'm undecided between the Vance Jib and the Advanta Jib. The Vance Jib seems like the quickest and most usable in a guerrila situation- setup time is very, very fast. The Advanta Jib, however, seems like the most "bang for my buck"- controlable mechanical head and very long lengh, but it seems like a very long setup time. Ted, how long does it take to setup your Advanta Jib? From the web video, it seems complicated...

Noel, excelent find. I heard about the Pocket Jib on the news section. Looks somewhat similar to the Vance Jib, an the reach seems about the same. I'm considering it. Hope it comes out soon, since I'll be getting into production the beginning of August and am on the fence for ordering. Current contenders are Vance, PocletJib and Advanta Jib. Advanta Jib for the bang for the buck, the other ones for pure guerrila, which is what I'm up to most of the time...

I can vouch for the operational aspects of the Advanta Jib. I was able to try one a few years ago at NAB and was impressed by how easy it was to learn, and how smoothly it handled.

It's also able to pan and tilt independently of the jib arm, a limitation of some jibs without the cost of a separate pan/tilt head.

I'm also in the market for a jib. I was considering the Cobra Crane. What are your gripes with it?
I'm going for low budget so I was thinking of getting a Glidecam Camcrane 200 and trying to build my own pan / tilt head.

i have gotten some great shots with the CC but its unwieldy and takes alot of physical exertion to control. Plus the cable concept is frustrating, I have to keep ordering new cables because the cable clasps are cheap and break or jam. As well, the machining and durability is not 100% tight....therefore its really clumsy to try and take apart or put the extensions on/off (sometimes taking 2 people to pry the bar sections out).
