Need new Capture software - HELP!

Well, this week, Premiere 1.5 has decided it doesn't recognize my camera. Last week it did, and the week before that it didn't. No, let me rephrase that. It can *control* the camera, it just can't record anything. Gotta love Premiere!

Anyway, I'm looking for a cheap/free capture-only program along the lines of DVgate Motion (if anyone knows where I can find this program, let me know). DVDStudio, what's on my computer now, seems to be corrupting any file it captures. So that's not an option.

Any and all suggestions are encouraged ASAP. I can't start this project until I get an answer from you guys! Help!

WTF
You got two applications that wont capture anything and you blame Premiere.

You need to sort your system back to what it was before the issues. You must have changed or installed something in that time or your DV interface card is going bung.

I would do a clean install of windows first. If the problem still persists I would get a new 1394 card as shooter has suggested.

Windows movie maker has a capture utility.

Actually, this is the third computer I've used that Premiere has had inconsistent success at recognizing a camera on. I've learned over time that if there's ever a question on why something isn't working and Premiere is involved, it's usually Premiere. It is one of the buggiest programs on the planet. But I digress, just looking for capture software suggestions. Thanks. Oh, and I'm not looking for 40 hour solutions either (reinstalling Windows).

Standard trouble shooting practise is to trace back to when it stopped.

You say that you can control the camera - means that premiere can see it so the issue is something else.

BTW : Premiere does not "record" DV. It is a file transfer process enabled by connecting to the source via an I/O device.
