Hi Everyone

My name is Ali Rizvi & this is my first day on this website.

I need help from this community. I want to buy a camera & I have only $2500. Why I want to buy a camera because I have some ideas which I want to implement. they are some small dramas(youth entertainment) & documentaries. I also want to shoot some current affair programs by interviewing 2-3 journalists at the same time in a panel discussion.

So what will you guys suggest me?????

Thanks in advance

Admin do tell me if I am posting this threat in the right area. thanks

Regards

Ali Rizvi :)

This probably isn't the best place for this, so hopefully a Mod will move it to a more appropriate section. But, I'll give you a quick answer anyhow:

You don't only need a camera, but a camera (and lens), a tripod, and some audio gear. That's as basic as you can get. In the $2500 range, you should look at the Canon Vixia line of camcorders and the Panasonic GH1. You might be able to get a good deal on a Canon XHA1. I'm not sure of other good options in that price range. All those are high-def.

You also have to ask yourself also if you have the computer power / software to edit footage. Do you have a decently powerful computer? Do you have any editing software?

Hope that helps you get started in the right direction.

thank you sir

thank you sir

yes Sir I know this isn't the right place...I was looking couldn't find a better place..as soon as the mod gives me the link I ll post it again over there...

2ndly I was just seeing the cameras. As someone told me that I would need Adobe premiere pro cs3...I can easily have that...& when I was looking at the requirements for this software my laptop will do it. Thank GOD I am saved from these expenses...:D

3rdly he also told me that dvx100 is a good choice as it comes with a camera as well. but I see its kind of expensive..... will go with some cheaper one or will have to increase my budget till 3500 to 4000. I was looking at the tripods its around 50-100$.

what do you think?

The DVX100 is a fantastic camera and one that I've done a lot of good work with, but it is a standard-def camera. In many ways, its days are numbered. While you can get a used DVX100 very cheaply, it probably behooves you to look at HD options.

then according to you learning on any new camera HD would be better then any camera like dvx100???because I have to learn as well.

Hello Ali,

If you can wait, I would go with the AG-HMC40 and a nice MIC like the ME66 with K6 Power Module, low-cost boom pole and the XLR MIC option for the HMC40. That should put you in the $2500 range and it will give you site and sound. You WILL need lighting but that can be done on the cheap much easier than the camera and sound gear. You can go to a hardware store and get some painters lights but there are some other options. We have been selling a light kit from Smith-Victor and it includes 2 600W lights with stands, barn doors and a carrying case for under $450. An even cheaper option is a Smith-Victor kit that has 3 lights (250W each) and stands for under $200.

Don't forget tripods. A great Fluid head tripod kit on a budget is the 701HDV, 547B - $300!

The AG-HMC40 comes with Edius Neo for free so you don't need editing software for this option, just a PC to run it on.

Let me know if you need anymore info on the above.

Sincerely,

Andrew Hoffman
