Need Help with workflow!!!

Hello fellow DVXusers, I'm sure this has been addressed before but I'm having a time finding posts about it.

I am about to begin a 20 minute documentary project for the local fire department. I'm collaborating with a friend who works on a mac with FCP. I work on a PC with Vegas. We have to tag-team the editing to get it done in time for their deadline.

What are your suggestions for how to handle a cross-platform editing workflow? We intend to use an external HDD to trade back and forth as we "change shifts". Any and all ideas are welcome on workflow, file formats, etc. I'm just a lowly student still cutting my teeth and this is my first "real" project involving this kind of collaboration.

Thanks all,

Jerry

Can you both edit on the same editing platform? That can make things easier.
i.e. log notes are the same, quicktime performance isn't good in Vegas (AVI not good in FCP), etc.

It's going to be a cumbersome process. You might even be better off printing back to DV tape when you switch off.

Or, what's probably better -- decide right now which sections you're both going to edit and then only combine them at the end.

If you're going to share a hard drive, it will need to be FAT32 format, and that limits you to 4GB file sizes, which is only 18 minutes of DV.

Yikes- I didn't know the drive would have to be FAT32 for us to share. That's a problem. I guess we'll have to print back to DV tape.

Editing on the same platform isn't an option. I don't have an apple/FCP and friend doesn't have PC/vegas. Zoiks!
