Need help with workflow!!!

Hello fellow DVXusers, I'm sure this has been addressed before but I'm having a time finding posts about it.

I am about to begin a 20 minute documentary project for the local fire department. I'm collaborating with a friend who works on a mac with FCP. I work on a PC with Vegas. We have to tag-team the editing to get it done in time for their deadline.

What are your suggestions for how to handle a cross-platform editing workflow? We intend to use an external HDD to trade back and forth as we "change shifts". Any and all ideas are welcome on workflow, file formats, etc. I'm just a lowly student still cutting my teeth and this is my first "real" project involving this kind of collaboration.

Thanks all,

Jerry

Good freekin luck.

Vegas and FCP are about as far apart as you can get.

Your best bet for workflow is to export your cuts to tape, and then re-import them on the other editor and make extra edits.

You could possibly get the first person to just assemble cuts on one editor, intentionally keeping clips long, and then the second person can import that clip into the machine, tighten up edits, add effects, and place b-roll. Be prepared to be very limited in what you do.

Just plan ahead for everything and you should do okay.
