Need help with wedding video

My niece's wedding was two years ago and my wife's cheap ass brother said he's video tape it as a gift (just didn't want to buy a gift)
He sat on the footage (hi-8) since then. The girls mother got the tapes back from him and I've had them converted to dv so I can do something with them.

The thing is the footage sucks! He didn't get her coming down the aisle, he sat his fat butt in the pew the whole time so there are heads etc, there are plenty of shots of the cieling/floor and there is only about 30 mins of video.

What can I do? I'm going to add some still montages of the reception and the rehearsal dinner etc, but other than that can you guys recommend any kind of magic to save this?

I've got Vegas 5.

I thank you, my wife thanks you, her sister thanks you, and my niece thanks you.

Re: Need help with wedding video

Perhaps try incorporating still images into this piece. A montage of the Bride and Groom as children and growing up? There are sure to be other photos available of the actual event as well as possibly current photographs?

Do you own a DVX100? Maybe even get some cutesy interviews from the Bride and Groom in their current state to put into this?

Just find the best images you can and use what you have. It's the thought that counts!

Pretty much all you can do.

I'd play up on the length of time since the wedding -- give it an "old movie" look -- explore the film effects options.

Re: Need help with wedding video

One of my favorite preset looks is the "Circa 1980" look. It really looks like the 8mm stuff I shot when I was kid -- the first time I applied it, I got goosebumps. Then add a little bit of blur, a little bit of soft vignetting, and the illusion is driven home.
