Need Help with tracking blue-screen subject

I am trying to have a person in front of a blue screen. BUt I need to move the subject around in a 3D-environment. Is there a good program that can do tracking or this sort of motion control? Does Vegas have any features for this?

No motion control in Vegas that I'm aware of. You could see if Serious Magic's Ultra has anything for you. They have a ton of 3D backgrounds, and have a great chroma keyer, but I'm not sure about true motion control on that one either.

You need to move the subjest around in a 3D environment? Are you saying you are going to have the camera moving (dolly, jib etc) while shooting someone against a greenscreen for 3D compositing?

No, basically I am just shooting the subject straight on. Then I want to put the subject in a 3d background and zoom in from really far away up to the subject. That's why I would think that I need some kind of tracking software.

Any ideas?

Nah, as long as the 3D image in the background is just a HIGH res still shot, you can zoom in at the same rate as the person to give it a natural/tied look. If you're working with a rendered video file, then you're a heck of a lot more restricted.

You'd be surprised what you can do with a high res. still background, some masks, etc. to bring it to life.

When I say 3D, I'm not talking about working in true 3D space like you would some programs. More like a still picture that has some visual depth to it. If you pan a picture properly in Vegas, as long as there are no animated objects in it (wind blown object, animals, people, etc.), you typically can't tell the difference between it being actual video vs. a still picture.

So, take you person who's green/blue screen, and move the background accordingly with their movements ... should be able to make it look fairly convincing. If your image/background is high enough res. you can zoom in/out as well to give it more depth & life to tie it in with the person.

Thanks Envision. By the way, I checked out that Serious Magic Ultra Key Program! Very COOL!! But kind of expensive. I want to know if I can acheive tracking shots like that in another program where I can have total control.

I would imagine that if you got any video that had a 3D look to it, like Serious Magic's, and had motion (moved around within the shot) ... if you planned it correctly with your talent, you could have them mimic the direction of the video, then if you need it to match more accurately (timing) in Vegas, simply use the velocity envelope to command the speed you want to match your subject's movements ... hope that makes sense.
