Haven't seen haunted hill, but in Gothika, are you referring to the "ghost" girl in the asylum?

i think they just make the actors walk weird...and then speed it up in post...that or they undercrank which i believe is setting the frame rate high....or low...i forget..

have the actor walk at half speed and record at half the frame rate to be able to speed it up in post

Yeah, you have to have them do everything really really slow and speed it up as fast as you need to get your effect.

what everyoen said..... and the most wierd and crazy **** u make them doo the better it looks

I also think that the actors are doing their weird walking/jittering backwards. Then when you speed it up and reverse it looks very odd and creepy.

googalizer is absolutely right... have the actor/actress walk backwards slowly. In post, reverse the footage and speed it up pieces of the footage. They do this in Gothica, but I think the ending of the Ring has the best example of this.
