Need help with solution for this problem. ND filter & Follow Focus problem.

Hey guys,

I just came across this problem today at a shoot.
I had 50mm Nikon ai-s lens on Bmpcc. I put 77mm Tiffen variable Nd filter on along with 52mm-77mm step-up ring.
And I put edelkrone lens gear so that its gear edge fits the edelkrone follow focus.
But, since the follow focus itself is thick. It interferes with the 77mm ND filter and cannot get attached to the lens gear.
It needs more length between ND filter and lens' focus ring to create ample space for the follow focus.
I haven't had any idea how to do that. I was looking on the net to see if there's any extension tube made like step-up ring, but I haven't found one yet.
Does anyone know if such a thing exists or have better and easy solution to this?

thx in advance!

I had this exact problem with the same lens and a fotga FF. I was able to get a bigger gear for the follow focus from them which solved it in the short term however at the expense of coarser adjustment for focus.

I'm going to 3D print some lens gears that are 80mm so that the FF is further from the lens barrel. Hope this helps!

What might work better is getting a bigger gear on the LENS.

Get one of those Lens gears that has "spokes" and comes out really wide away from the surface of the lens itself - you know the ones I mean?

This will allow you to get the follow focus further away from the rails AND it will give you FINER focus control.
They're just kind of a pain to put into lens cases. But they're not expensive.

EDIT: This is the kind I mean:

You want the one with the longest "spokes".
I don't know if this exact one will get you enough reach, but there are other makers of this type of lens ring out there. Some are better quality and some have a wider outside diameter - which is what you want.|

The trick is to make sure the inner diameter matches the lens you want to put it on, and the outer diameter gets you enough clearance.
Find the right size and it should work perfectly.

How about using multiple stepup rings e.g. 52-55, 55-58, 58-62, 62-67, 67-72 and 72-77. Probably cheap on eBay, might give you enough clearance, but not pretty
