NEED HELP WITH SHOTGUN MIC...

Hey there, I have recently purchased a shotgun mic, and it has the stereo input which the DVX doesnt allow, correct me if I'm wrong. I purchased a stereo to XLR adapter, and now I am picking up sound... but problems are...

A. It only records to the right speaker.

B. The mic doesn't seem to pick up anything far away.

Is there some setting I need to fix or anything I'm doing wrong?

Thanks in advance.

Re: NEED HELP WITH SHOTGUN MIC...

1: Plug the XLR adapter into input 2.
2: Open the LCD and flip both input switches to input 2.
3: It will now be in a false stereo configuration and sound GREAT.

As for picking up sound far away.... loose the shotgun and try a small diaphram condenser that is phantom powered. They will pick up a rat fart and any thing else you may or may not want. ;D

A shotgun mic is designed to only pick up noise that is directly in front of what you are pointing at and reject background noise. So it is working.

If you want more noise from the mic try turning up the gain on the side of the camera. Two round radio buttons with large arrows pointing up.

You should use your shotgun on a end of a boom arm approx 1 to 3 feet above or below your subject aimed towards the mouth (depending on the shot).

Or if mounted on camera try to get the camera as close to possible to the speaking subject and ajust the gain to your taste.

If your mic is still not loud enough try using a preamp.

Personally I use a wireless lav for far away speakers, Plus the mic wont get in the shot.

Hope this helps. :P

Depending on the exact model shotgun, is it turned on (the mic itself), easy to forget?
