need help with separating video at cuts.

i have some music vids i have been hired to color. i am going to use fcp and color to do it. the problem is they were edited in premiere pro and i have been handed finished cuts only. i need to separate the video back into individual cuts for grading. i could do it by hand but it will take a lot of time. i seem to remember some software that would detect cuts in a video and make markers or even individual clips at the cuts.

getting the project file or having the client give me the pieces is not an option. he is in germany and i only have two days. everything has been transferred to me via ftp. no time to do this another way. i must make this work.

the format is quicktime dvcpro hd 720p/24

anybody know of software that will detect and make these cuts for me?

If you'll be grading each clip individually, wouldn't it be worth it just to split up the video by hand as you move along?

I don't know of any software that can detect scene changes visually. Scene-detection looks at timecode starts/stops usually, as far as I know.

ya there is software out there that does it. i've seen it work. i just forgot the name of it. it doesn't use timecode. i'm not sure how it detects breaks honestly. it's not perfect but will catch most of them for me.

the reason i want to cut it up in fcp first is so i can send it to color and have individual clips to work with then. if i was grading in fcp only then this wouldn't be an issue.

i do have AE!! thanks. i will check this out. in the meantime, if anyone knows any other ware that does this, chime in please.

ugghhh... the link for magnum is bad. looks like the whole site is down.

anybody have a copy of magnum they can email me?

In the time you've spent looking for a program to do this, you could have razored the whole thing by hand. Tedious, yes, but it shouldn't take more than a few hours.

well i did razor the first one by hand already. but now i have 4 more to do so you see why i am still looking. btw, someone emailed it to me so i'm good to go. thanks!!
