Need help with rendering, burning DVD/CD's

This just simply isn’t working for me (Vegas that is!). I admit, this software is complex and professional but it isn’t user friendly;

I’m having a problem making CD’s/burning DVD’s. I have some live band footage (working with one song) and I can’t burn a CD or burn a DVD.

In Vegas 5.0, I select “render as” (which I've tried rendering as mpg, avi, wav, wma, Scott wav) and tried just about all formats;

after rendering, the options are (open; open file; close);
if I select “open” it will play in Media Player;
what I do instead is “close” it, then select “burn CD”, and select “video CD”.

I have blank DVD’s but Vegas won’t let me burn the info to the DVD;
each time I try I get a message that says “please insert an rewritable DVD;
or insert a blank DVD”;
so I try to burn to a CD and the burn starts;
it’ll get to the end, seemingly finished, then the CD will pop out and I’ll get a message that says “burn was completed with no errors”;
at that point I will assume it is finished, but there won’t be any info on the CD.

In short, can someone send me the steps to do both: burn a DVD and a CD?

Thank you very much. Signed, dazed and confused...and exhausted. denodigital@yahoo.com :cry:

Hmmm... I don't really understand what you're doing - why are you trying to burn DVD content to a CD and/or video-CD content to a DVD? I probably just misunderstood you.

Anyway, if you have DVD Architect (which you need in order to author DVD's - or another authoring program), you need to select Render As, then use the MPEG-2 output, select an appropriate DVD Architect preset, and output using that.

Then, open DVD Architect (or other authoring software) and pull the files in that you just rendered. Then you can burn a DVD.
If you want a Video CD, then insert a CD-R and you can do that from Vegas. If you tried that and aren't getting any data written to the CD, then you probably have the "render loop region only" box selected incorrectly in your output dialog (when the "Burn Video CD" dialog box comes up, make sure that it has an estimated output size somewhere... if it doesn't then selecting a region of your project and then select the render loop region only box).

I know I've probably been a little bit confusing, but hopefully you'll be able to pull something helpful from that.
