Need help with rates...

I already know what I charge as a Shooter and Editor but I have a project where I need to hire a Co-producer to help me with a particular project. Now this person works in the same line of work as myself but this will be one of his first jobs taking on the role as Co-Producer. I asked him what his rates are and he left it up to me to give him a fair and reasonable rate.

I am going to be doing all the shooting and editing on the project. His help comes in with creating ideas and helping me on the days of the shoot if needed. I don't want to short change him so I am coming to you all to see what is fair. A ball park figure would be cool. I really don't know what Producers charge for their time.

I need to get the proposal to the folks were doing the project for soon and I wanted to have the rates included in the proposal.

Thanks!

Creating Ideas? Maybe just a script writing fee for that. As far as helping on the shoot- pay him as a grip if thats what he's doing.

Producing is a large umbrella, if he's helping out with a select couple portions, pay him for those.

wearing so many hats, I have found it simplest to just keep a day rate for whatever I may be doing from producing to animating.
Keeps things very simple, especially when offering a weekly rate or a flat bid ona project.

Yea I jus need to see what the going day rate is for producers though which is the issue. I am going to be doing all the shooting and editing. In terms of generating some of the ideas and creating a script will be his duties. If I needed a second camera for the shoot then I will use him for that as well.

In broadcast budgets producers and directors (above the line) made a percentage of the below the line cost. (this was like 10%, but this was several years ago in broadcast school...)

When I work on a project, and I'm shooting, editing, lighting, scripting, basically doing ALL the work, if that work includes scheduling talent and locations, handling the budget/estimates, I consider that another job as a director and/or producer, and I add that rate onto the budget as a percentage as described above.

producers here make about 400 a day
editors are about there as well for the most part.
