Need help with moving files

Hi, my problem is that my original hard drive was full, except for 3 gigs, until I moved the folder "Final Cut Studio" from the location 'Library-Application support' and onto my 500gig drive in my computer. Now some master templates are not working and I'm sure other things are not. How can I tell Final Cut where the files are? or should I just move that folder back? How much space is good to leave free on my main hard drive?

Are there any better options?

Also when I was installing I tried to put some software on my 500gig harddrive, but it would not let me so I had to put all 60 gigs about on the same hard drive.

Thanks
David

You've got quite a few problems going on.

Never NEVER remove any system files... your library/application support stuff should go back NOW.

If you have problems with size of system drive build yourself a new internal system for all your games and stuff. Then boot off of that when you want to do something diifferent.

BTW -- where is your scratch disk set? Moving THOSE to the 500gig drive should be your first step.

I can't tell you what to toss from your system as I'm not right there. But if you're full... you need to do some cleaning!! Try moving your iTunes library. If you don't know how you better find out. But that shoudl save you hoops of space.

You can actually make symbolic links, sort of like aliases, that will point to your files wherever you put them. Unlike aliases, OS X can't tell the difference between a symlink and the original file. You used to only be able to do this in the terminal, but someone wrote a program to make it easier--

http://www.naratt.com/MakeSymlink.html

What you do is put your files where you want them on your external drive, select the folder or file and make a symbolic link, then drag this symlink to the main drive. Make sure the symlink has the same exact name and is in the same location as the original file so your program gets fooled into thinking it's still on the main hard drive, when it's really accessing it from the external.

Thanks for the help everyone, I don't have time to mess w/ my computer now, but I will try later.
btww captm i already moved my itunes library
