Hey there! I'm sure this is one of the sillier questions posted on this board, but I was hoping someone here could help me on my technological ignorance. I have been shooting a doc on 24p, with a panasonic dvx 100xb that I was renting. A year or so later when I got a dvx 100b of my own, I started shooting on 24p-advanced. The video looks crisp and the color is nice when I ingest it in my final cut express, with both 24p and 24pa, but it does have very noticeable interlacing. Anytime there is a sudden quick movement or someone is wearing glasses, I can see lines distracting lines in the video. What is the best setting to ingest on when I put the video shot on both settings into my final cut express program? Any other tips about cutting with 24p and 24pa would be most appreciated! I'm stumbling along, learning as I go, so any advice pertaining to the 24p settings on a 100xb would be incredible!

Unless you are editing a feature film there is no need to use 24P. If your going to DVD or Blu-Ray just use the standard interlaced frames. Interlaced footage handless motion much bettet than 24P. I have explained why in another post.

That's crap. Don't spread such USELESS information 'round these parts!

His issue is with NOT being able to remove the cadence in Express. Not that he sees interlaced lines and that interlaced lines would handle motion better. Oh wait... Ben Hur was shot with interlaced film.

Please.

What I posted is true you idiot. 24 frames will not have smooth motion like 60 fields per second.

Can you comprehend basic math?

you haven't worked with 24p have you medeamajic?

I explained it in the other thread you tried to correct me... 24p doesn't shoot 60 fields per second!!! you have no idea what you are talking about.

to the OP, for FCE you should never shoot 24pA because you have no intention (or capability) of removing the 2:3:3:2 pulldown. With FCE, you really don't have any options to undo the combined fields that you are seeing.

You read my post wrong. Regular NTSC footage has 60 fields per seond. Did I say 24P has 60 fields? Please learn how to read. And yes, interlaced has a smoother look when doing semi fast pans. In this thread I even restated 24P will not be as smooth a 60 fields/30 frames per second. Where did I say 24P is 60 fields per second you idiot? Learn how to read. I am stating the obvious. 60 interlaced fileds will have smother motion. Film at 24 frames per second is jerky when compared to 60 interlaced fields. Everyone wants to get that film look and the jerky strobe effect is part of what gives film it's unique look over tape not to mention the media format.
