Hello
I Shot a Music video on the DVX 100a with the m2.
I shot it on the 24 p setting on the dvx
i imported under dv ntsc 48khz - 24
i edited the video
set the setting of the video to frame size hdtv 720p 16:9
pixel aspect ratio square
compressor mpeg 4
once this is done
i export my movie using quick time conversion
click options set to h.264
quality best
i go to size set it to hd 1280 x 720
save to computer
export to disc using IDVD on best quality
once this is done i pop in my dvd player and it looks real bad
it has very harsh lines and does not look like it is very good quality
what am i doing wrong?
Thank you

Two things.

1) You set the the setting to 720p...you didn't shoot 720p. That is an HD format and that camera is an SD camera. So you are blowing up the footage and recompressing it.

2) H.264...why did you do this? This is not a DVD format. So now you compressed the footage AGAIN. Then you compress for DVD as MPEG-2...third stage of compression. So gonna look like poo.

Export a self contained movie...or reference QT...then take that into Compressor, choose the BEST QUALITY DVD format that matches your timing. Take the result into DVDSP...

I was having a similar issue, although i used the dv/dvc pro ntsc to export. It while it shows it being 23.98 on FCP, but on DVD Pro it always shows it as being 29.97. I tried many different combinations, same result. Checked the settings on both FCP and DVD Pro4 and could not find anything to specify for 24p. What gives?FCP did not have the settings for 24p export, only 30p.
